Monday, January 17th, is recognized as the MLK Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Each year, millions of Americans serve their communities to honor his legacy in a day of service. We’ve put together a list of just a few things you can do to support your friends and community!
Volunteer with or donate to Funky Town Fridge. A community fridge project that aims to combat hunger, empower our communities, reduce food waste, and educate the city of Fort Worth, Funk Town Fridge places refrigerators and pantries in public spaces accessible to the community 24 hours a day and stock them with nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste. Check out the community fridge installed at our Campus Drive Headquarters!
Give blood with Carter BloodCare. Due to the pandemic, blood supply is at a critical shortage due to less donors than usual. All blood types are needed from all eligible blood donors. As a benefit, the blood center is shower appreciation to those who donate blood by providing no-cost COVID-19 antibody testing on successful donations. And, if you’re recovered from COVID-19, you could help others recover with a convalescent plasma donation.
Donate to Goodwill North Central Texas. With more than 35 area donation locations you can rid your home of clutter or clothing you’re no longer using and help make a difference in someone’s life at the same time. Goodwill turns your unwanted donations into free job training and placement programs for people with disabilities, at-risk youth, the formerly incarcerated, the homeless and our veterans to help them transition from a life of dependence to one of independence.
