There are many reasons to shop at thrift stores. Some do so to save a little more, to be economical in both their pockets and the environment. Others do it just for the thrill of finding a good buy! For National Bargain Hunting Week, we have a few tips on how to score more when shopping for home décor and clothing items at Goodwill. And we’ll share a few items we dug up at the Goodwill Saginaw store that were a definite steal.
Tip: New Goods
Every Goodwill North Central Texas store carries new goods (non-donated items) near the front and clearance sections with as much as 75% off on a variety of items!
Wall Art
While flipping through stacked frames, this photograph of the George Washington Bridge by Edward Steichen stood out and was priced at just $7.49 (the print alone sells online for $45) making this piece of artwork over 80% off its current value! Frames alone are worth the price paid for this item at Goodwill.
Tip: Color Tags
Color tag sales are available weekly, making select items with the corresponding color tag half off (50%) the ticketed price (color tags of the week are posted on our social channels as well!).
Clothing
While the outerwear is fully stocked before the cold weather hits in a few months, this throwback 90s Columbia Mountain Jacket caught our eye and was priced at only $7.99 (reselling on Grailed for $116), making this item 90% off its current value. Although the color of the week was not green, other outerwear was half off and only $3.99!
And, note: Color Tags sale change every Monday morning, making it the best time to hunt for half off clothing options.
Tip: Dishware
Stand-alone dishes such as wine glasses, mugs, saucers, plates, etc. without a price tag are only .89 cents!
Kitchen
The kitchen and small appliance areas have plenty of vintage pieces. This 80s wine glass rack by HiMark Giftware was priced at $4.99 (reselling for $30 on ebay with no glasses). Perfect for an area with small storage space.
Tip: Active Duty or Retired Military
Veterans with a valid Military ID get 10% off their purchase every day.
Home Piece
Oil lamps are hard to come by in one piece but these unique Calla Lily oil lamps from Glass Dimensions were priced at $1.99 each (originally $74.00 for a pair online) making this trio super cheap! One still had its glass wick insert.
Tip: Seniors 55+
If you are 55 or older, stop by every Tuesday for 25% off your purchase!
Books
With all hardcovers being priced at $1.99 each at Goodwill, this New York Times dessert cookbook is a deal (currently selling for $21.74 on Amazon) making this book 90% off its original price! For even more book options or to find a specific title quickly, visit our Amazon bookstore.
Toys
You can find great deals for the grandkids too! This giant floor piano dance mat was priced at only $4.99 (selling on the FAO SCHWARZ website for $80.00) giving this toy a discount of over 90% off its current value.
