A few costly mistakes in the year 2000 sent Scott Casey into a life of incarceration. After being arrested for theft he lost his job as a mechanic, his tools, truck and home. When he was released in July 2023, Scott came to Workforce Solutions seeking a fresh start. The organization referred him to Goodwill North Central Texas’ Denton Job Resource Center, where he entered the organization’s ReLaunch program.
ReLaunch provides the formerly incarcerated with access to community resources and job placement services at no-cost so they can achieve a positive re-entry experience. Goodwill staff connected him with local housing resources, nearby cooling stations and food pantries. Scott also needed an updated resume to highlight his industry knowledge. Together he and his Employment Specialist created his resume, came up with a list of goals to help get him back on his feet and began meeting with second-chance employers.
Speaking with recruiters face-to-face gave Scott added confidence. He worked with his Job Placement Specialist to find roles that suited his qualifications and needs. The process worked, and soon he found full-time employment with Flowers Bakery. To ensure his employment continued to be a success, Goodwill provided Scott with clothing vouchers and bus passes. ReLaunch helped Scott gain a sense of stability and laid the foundation for him to achieve his goals.
