Born in Denton, Texas, and raised in Niles, Michigan, Charlotte Wright’s journey has been marked by a commitment to personal and professional growth. After completing her high school education in Niles, she returned to her hometown of Denton with aspirations of working in an office setting. In pursuit of this goal, Charlotte earned her Clerical Studies Certificate in 1980.
However, life took an turn when Charlotte became a mother of two. Faced with the demands of raising a family, she temporarily put her education and career aspirations on hold. Despite this pause, Charlotte held onto the hope that one day she would have the opportunity to develop her technology skills.
In November 2023, Charlotte’s hope materialized when she visited the American Legion Senior Center. Seeking information about available services and classes, she was directed to Goodwill’s Digital Career Accelerator, a program conducted on-site. Recognizing her outdated familiarity with typewriters and the evolving landscape of technology, Charlotte eagerly enrolled in the computer class.
The first day of class, on November 15, 2023, was a pivotal moment for Charlotte. The instructor wasted no time in guiding her through the process of creating a PowerPoint presentation, and Charlotte, filled with excitement, embraced the chance to dive into the world of technology.
What sets Goodwill’s Digital Career classes apart for Charlotte is the personalized attention and support she receives from the instructor. She expressed gratitude for an environment where no question is deemed too basic, and every student is ensured the time needed to grasp new concepts. “I don’t have to worry about being left behind or that I’m going to feel stupid if I ask a question that I don’t know,” Charlotte said.
For Charlotte, Goodwill has become a beacon of opportunity. Through their support, she can strengthen her skillset and remain a valuable, productive employee in her workplace. The Digital Career Accelerator has not only equipped Charlotte with updated technological skills but has also reignited her passion for learning and professional development.
