Fashion with Purpose: Project Goodwill 2024 Transforms Unconventional Materials

Get ready to indulge in a night of creativity, fashion and philanthropy! Goodwill North Central Texas proudly announces the return of Project Goodwill on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the elegant Worthington Renaissance Hotel in Fort Worth.

Project Goodwill isn’t just your average fashion show—it’s a dazzling fusion of creativity and community spirit. This annual event showcases the ingenuity of aspiring designers from our community, challenging them to create stunning wearable garments using $100 worth of unconventional materials sourced from local Goodwill stores.

Imagine garments crafted from lampshades, album covers, even adult diapers—nothing is off-limits in this unique design competition. Each year, contestants push the boundaries of fashion, transforming everyday items into runway-ready looks that captivate and inspire. From whimsical to avant-garde, the creativity knows no bounds.

In the spotlight of the 2023 event was Kate Oxley, whose innovative dress crafted from clear plastic shower curtains, white sun hats, and Goodwill shopping bags earned her both first place and the people’s choice award. Her creation beautifully echoed the 121-year history of Goodwill, showcasing the organization’s commitment to sustainability and community impact.

This year’s fashion show will be hosted by none other than Anthony Elle, winner of Project Runway All Stars, Season 6, and star of HGTV’s Rock the Block. Our esteemed panel of judges includes industry professionals such as Lyndsay Baylor from Kendra Scott, Joe Allen Brown from Texas Wesleyan University, Dearrine Morrow (@thedivaofcurvestx), and Kanani Mahelona, adding an extra layer of excitement and expertise to the event.

But Project Goodwill is about more than just fashion—it’s about making a difference in the lives of those we serve. All proceeds from Project Goodwill 2024 will go toward the expansion of Goodwill’s S.T.A.R.S. program. S.T.A.R.S., which stands for Skills Training Achieves Results, is a unique day program for adults with disabilities that recreates daily living scenarios through an interactive, realistic environment. Participants rotate between different places such as the apartment, general store, town square, art studio and fitness center. Each different place gives participants a chance to learn real life skills while having fun and interacting with staff and participants. The curriculum is designed to help participants overcome their disadvantages and achieve maximum independence. In 2023 alone, Project Goodwill raised more than $30,000 for this vital cause, highlighting the incredible impact that our community can make when we come together for a common purpose.

Even if you can’t attend in person, you can still be a part of the excitement by tuning into the live stream starting at 7:30 p.m. on www.YouTube.com/@GoodwillNCT. Join us as we celebrate creativity, sustainability, and the power of community at Project Goodwill 2024. Together, we can transform lives, one fabulous garment at a time.
