After retiring at 60, Fort Worth resident Derick Duncan quickly realized that his retirement income would not be enough to cover his bills and provide a comfortable, stress-free life. Despite holding an Associate Degree in Architectural Science, he struggled to secure a new job.
In search of employment opportunities, Derick visited Goodwill North Central Texas for the first time. It was there that he learned about the Digital Career Accelerator program. Recognizing his need for basic computer skills in today’s job market, he eagerly enrolled in the program to expand his digital skillset.
Thanks to the Digital Career Accelerator, Derick has gained essential computer skills and now confidently uses Microsoft and Google suites. Overcoming his initial fear of computers, he feels well-equipped to embark on his job search.
Just a year and a half after retirement, Derick’s journey has transformed him from feeling overwhelmed and unskilled to hopeful and empowered. With his newfound digital skills, he plans to become a writer and secure a job working from home. Derick feels blessed to have enrolled in the program, which has allowed him to re-enter the job market and significantly improve his life.
