The first day of fall has come and gone, and there’s something about a change in season that makes us want to hit the reset button.
Maybe it’s cleaning out the closet. Maybe it’s finally tackling the garage. Or maybe you’re simply ready for a fresh start before the busy holiday season arrives. Whatever your motivation, fall is a great time to declutter what you no longer need, donate what you can and discover something new at Goodwill.
Start with Your Closet
Before you pull out your fall wardrobe, take a look at what you already have. Ask yourself:
- Does it still fit?
- Have I worn it in the last year?
- Is it still in good condition?
- Does it still fit my personal style?
- Would someone else get more use out of it?
If the answer is no, consider donating it rather than letting it take up valuable closet space. And don’t forget about shoes, handbags, accessories and other items that may have been hiding in the back of your closet.
Move Beyond the Closet
Fall is also a great time to tackle other areas of your home. Look through your:
- Kitchen cabinets
- Linen closets
- Bookshelves
- Kids’ toys and games
- Home décor
- Garage and storage spaces
You might be surprised by how many items you’re holding onto that could have a second life with someone else.
Give Your Items a Second Life
When you donate usable items to Goodwill North Central Texas, you’re doing more than clearing out your home. Your donations help keep items in circulation and give shoppers the opportunity to find affordable clothing, furniture, household goods and other treasures.
Your donations also support Goodwill’s mission of creating lives of independence and building a stronger local community.
Then Come See What You Can Discover
Once you’ve cleaned out your home, there’s another fun part of the reset: seeing what you can find. Maybe you’re looking for a cozy sweater, a new piece of home décor or something completely unexpected. Goodwill stores are constantly receiving new donations, so every visit offers the possibility of a new discovery.
And because you’re shopping secondhand, you can refresh your home or wardrobe while giving previously loved items another life.
Make Fall Your Fresh Start
A seasonal reset doesn’t have to mean buying everything new. Sometimes the best way to refresh your space, your wardrobe and your routine is to simply make room for what’s next. This fall, declutter what you don’t need, donate what you can and thrift what you love.
Your old favorites could become someone else’s new favorites and together, we can do a little more good in our community.
