When veteran Eric Purvey met the Goodwill North Central Texas team during a community outreach event at John Peter Smith Hospital in May 2025, his drive and determination immediately stood out. After learning about the opportunities available through Goodwill North Central Texas’ VetWorthy program, Eric wasted no time taking the next step.
The very next day, he enrolled in the program. With guidance and encouragement from the VetWorthy team, Eric completed his intake process, built a strong resume and began actively applying for positions. From day one, he approached his job search with focus and optimism.
His hard work quickly paid off. Within just a few weeks, Eric connected with a manager at Goodwill’s Campus location in Fort Worth, attended orientation and joined the Goodwill team as a Retail Team Member in Centralized Processing.
Through VetWorthy, Eric also received the wraparound support he needed to succeed, including bus passes and clothing vouchers to help him get to work and feel prepared until he earned his first paycheck. By August 2025, he had already celebrated his 90-day employment milestone, a testament to his consistency and dedication.
Today, Eric continues to thrive both professionally and personally. He has maintained his sobriety, purchased a vehicle and moved into his own apartment within his first month on the job. He is also active in his church and has built a strong support network through his workplace and community.
Eric’s journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when determination meets opportunity. Thanks to Goodwill North Central Texas’ VetWorthy program, he has not only rebuilt his life but also become an inspiration to others seeking their own second chance.
