When Tonya Buie first learned about Goodwill’s services while enrolled at Safe Haven, she was looking for one thing: stability. Though unemployed at the time, Tonya brought with her years of experience in the food and beverage and customer service industries. She had the skills, she just needed the right support to re-enter the workforce.
On September 8, 2025, Tonya officially enrolled in the Goodwill Works program. From the very beginning, she demonstrated motivation, consistency, and a strong desire to move forward.
Through Goodwill’s workforce services, Tonya received help developing a professional résumé, setting up online job search tools, and navigating employment platforms. She participated in interview preparation sessions, learned effective application strategies, and attended hiring events to build her confidence. With each workshop and coaching session, her determination only grew stronger.
After completing job readiness activities, Tonya began working closely with a Job Placement Specialist who connected her with targeted job leads aligned with her experience. Despite facing challenges related to transportation, housing stability, and background barriers, she remained focused on her goal.
Her persistence paid off.
Within days of enrolling in the program, Tonya secured employment with Globe Life Field in mid-September. The position allowed her to put her customer service skills to work and marked a significant turning point. In less than a month, she transitioned from unemployment to steady employment, a testament to her resilience and commitment.
Today, Tonya continues building on the confidence and skills she strengthened through Goodwill North Central Texas. She is thriving in her role and moving forward with renewed stability and purpose.
“Goodwill gave me the support and direction I needed to move forward,” Tonya shared. “They helped me believe I could get back to work and stay on track.”
