Community Works Success: Marisol Caro

Marisol Caro has experienced her fair share of struggles in life including homelessness, depression and a criminal background. Prior to her setbacks, Marisol worked for four years as a Medical Assistant and loved her work. Like many of us though, she fell into some bad habits, made some bad decisions, and experienced setback after setback.

When Marisol discovered Goodwill’s Community Works program while at True Worth Place, a day shelter for the homeless, in March 2019, she was at rock bottom but still had some fight in her.

Upon learning about the program and free services available, Marisol decided to enroll in the program to receive all of the support she could in overcoming her barriers and searching for employment. After enrollment, Marisol showed true dedication to bettering her life by completing digital skills assessments and job readiness training. From there, Marisol was connected to the Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County’s local Workforce Center where she received funding to take a forklift certification class through Goodwill’s North Texas Institute for Career Development. She obtained her certification and worked closely with the Community Works team to find gainful employment.

In November 2019, Marisol’s hard work and dedication paid off when she received a full-time, permanent job offer working as a forklift operator with McLane Foods. Today, Marisol has turned her life around. She is still working in her position with McLane, earning a great salary, and now has a home of her own and recently purchased a vehicle.
