Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day

January 17th is known as Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day.

 Here’s why:

  • Overly ambitious New Year’s resolutions are so hard to follow through on that only 9 percent of people actually keep them.
  • So many people ditch their resolutions by mid-January that January 17 became known as Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day.

If, like most people, you’ve already given up on your resolutions by mid-January, use Ditch Day as an opportunity to create a more achievable resolution related to getting organized!

Here’s how:

1) Focus on the process, not the result: Instead of saying, “I’m going to have an organized closet,” think of smaller steps to get you there. For example, you can place a collection box on the floor of your closet. Every time you come across a piece of clothing you never wear, toss it in the box. As the clothes fill the box, you’ll find you have more room on your hanging bar for the clothes you love!

2) Set yourself up for success: Make your goal achievable in the short term. You don’t have to reorganize and redecorate your entire home; work on one small area (like a desk or a closet) at a time. Doing so will give you a feeling of accomplishment that will motivate you to do more.

3) Connect to your core values: Donating your used clothing and household goods to Goodwill gives you the satisfaction of helping your fellow community members to attain vital job skills, explore employment opportunities and make a positive social impact.

So happy New Year’s Resolution Ditch Day – here’s to revising your resolutions and making 2023 your best year yet!
