From Setbacks to Success: Joziah Jackson’s Journey with Goodwill’s E-Squared Program

At just 17 years old, Joziah Jackson faced challenges that could have derailed his future. Struggling with mental health and missing school, he found himself unable to recover the credits needed to graduate. But rather than giving up, Joziah and his family sought out a new path—one that would give him the chance to complete his education while also gaining valuable work experience. That path led him to Goodwill North Central Texas’ Education & Employment (E-Squared) Program in August 2024.

Through the program, Joziah worked closely with his E-Squared Class Instructor and Youth Specialist, receiving the academic support and encouragement he needed. His Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County Career Advisor helped remove barriers by providing transportation vouchers, ensuring that the lack of reliable transit wouldn’t stand in the way of his success.

Joziah’s journey wasn’t without obstacles. After months of hard work, he faced the disappointment of not passing one of his GED exams on the first attempt. Discouraged, he considered walking away from the process altogether. But with support from the E-Squared staff and a renewed sense of determination, he pushed forward—retaking the test and passing to earn his GED certificate!

In just four months, Joziah went from being at risk of not graduating to becoming an E-Squared graduate with a clear vision for his future. Now, he has applied to Tarrant County College and is taking the next step toward a career in Information Technology. His advice to others facing similar challenges?

“Learn from your challenges to work on the path to success.”

Joziah’s story is a powerful reminder that setbacks don’t define us—it’s how we rise above them that truly matters.
