Goodwill to Host Fall Festival for S.T.A.R.S. Participants

WHO:  More than 120 participants in Goodwill North Central Texas’ S.T.A.R.S. (Skills Training Achieves Results) program for adults with significant mental disabilities

WHAT:  Goodwill North Central Texas will host a fall festival and Halloween party for S.T.A.R.S. participants, a unique day program for adults with disabilities. Halloween is Goodwill’s favorite holiday and employees and S.T.A.R.S. participants are sure to be dressed in costumes made from items found at local Goodwill stores. S.T.A.R.S. participants will partake games, a photo booth, trunk or treat and awards will be given for most original, funniest, weirdest and scariest costume, as well as best dance.

S.T.A.R.S recreates daily living scenarios through an interactive, realistic environment. Participants rotate between different places such as the apartment, general store, town square, art studio and fitness center. Each different place gives participants a chance to learn real life skills while having fun and interacting with staff and participants. The curriculum is designed to help participants overcome their disadvantages and achieve maximum independence.

10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – S.T.A.R.S. Fall Festival
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Trunk or Treat
12 p.m. – Costume contest awards announced
