Goodwill® Helps People Across Communities Find Jobs and Advance Their Careers
Every year during the first week of May, local Goodwill organizations across the U.S. and Canada celebrate Goodwill Week to shine the light on the Goodwill mission — transforming lives through the power of work. Throughout the week, Goodwill North Central Texas will host several events including a grand opening of our new HQ, a job fair, resume workshop and more.
While the U.S. economy is steadily improving and the national unemployment rate continues to decline, many individuals continue to struggle with poverty, homelessness and lack of access to the resources they need to find and sustain good-paying jobs. That’s where Goodwill comes in. For more than 120 years, Goodwill organizations across North America have helped people find jobs, support their families and feel the satisfaction that comes from working. At Goodwill North Central Texas, we assist people through a variety of employment placement services, job training programs and other community-based services.
“Despite the improved economy and healthy employment market, many people still lack access and resources that will enable them to find and sustain good-paying jobs,” said Romney Guy, Vice President of Worforce Development for Goodwill North Central Texas. “We currently have over 10 million job openings in the U.S. — but only 5.7 million unemployed workers. With more jobs available than people to fill them, we have an opportunity to provide job training and placement to those individuals in need of work. Goodwill Week comes at a critical time to spotlight those individuals, and our local community partners and employers who work with us to support them.”
Goodwill North Central Texas sells donated goods with proceeds going directly to provide job placement and training, skills development for career advancement, and other necessary support services for people looking to learn skills and advance their careers.
