Margarita Hernandez was unsure of her future. After being hospitalized during the pandemic, she knew she needed a steady-paying job and new skillset to help pay off her medical bills. A co-worker who was enrolled in the North Texas Institute for Career Development (NTI) encouraged her to apply for the school’s medical front office assistant course so she could acheive her goal.
Margarita enrolled in the program in February 2022 and quickly found her passion for patient care with help from NTI staff. She passed the National Healthcare Administration certification in Medical Administrative Assistant exam in May 2022 and began applying for jobs, eventually finding employment with Advanced Eye Clinic.
The variety of tasks on a day-to-day basis brings Margarita joy. She is the first person to greet patients and assist them with paperwork, and she prepares eye exam machines and conducts several parts of the eye examination.
NTI gave Margarita the confidence to start her medical career. She plans to continue within optometry and is excited to take on more responsibilities down the road. Margarita’s words of advice for anyone thinking about NTI are “don’t be afraid, make the change!”
