Peter Vaca needed to make a change in his career. “I was ready for something new, I felt like I was going nowhere in the job that I had at the time,” he said. Inspired by his grandfather’s career as a truck driver, Peter decided to follow in his footsteps and obtain his CDL professional truck driver license in hopes of one day owning his own trucking company.
He began his efforts by attending Fort Worth ISD’s Adult Education and Literacy program, which offers adults the opportunity to earn their high school equivalency with help from the Texas Workforce Commission. From there he was referred to Goodwill’s North Texas Institute for Career Development (NTI) and received scholarship funding to enroll in their CDL Professional Truck Driving program.
Peter excelled in NTI, averaging 95% on all levels of his coursework. He graduated on July 27th and soon after began his trucking career with Schneider Logistics.
With Goodwill’s help, Peter is one step closer to obtaining his goals. He remains employed with Schneider Logistics and is looking forward to what the future may hold for his career.
