From the moment Antonette Neal enrolled in the North Texas Institute for Career Development’s (NTI) Professional Truck Driving Program, she knew exactly what she was working toward. Earning a Commercial Driver’s License represented more than a credential. It was a pathway to stability, independence and a stronger future for her family.
With financial support from the City of Arlington’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Antonette began the seven-week CDL program on June 30, 2025. While she was motivated and determined, the journey was not without challenges. As a mother, her children came first, and early in the program she needed to take a brief leave of absence to care for her family and ensure her home was stable. Once those needs were met, Antonette returned focused and ready to move forward.
Balancing personal responsibilities with the demands of an intensive training program was not easy. There were moments when staying on track felt overwhelming and Antonette questioned whether continuing was the right choice. Still, she showed up every day. Even when the material felt difficult and she struggled to keep pace at first, she refused to give up.
Week by week, Antonette’s confidence grew. What began as uncertainty turned into determination. She asked questions, put in the work and trusted the process. By the end of the program, she had transformed from someone trying to catch up into a leader in the classroom.
Antonette completed the CDL program on her first attempt and became the first in her class to finish. On September 9, 2025, she officially earned her Commercial Driver’s License and secured a driving position just weeks later.
Antonette’s success is not defined only by the license she earned, but by the resilience and perseverance she demonstrated along the way. With support from NTI and the CDBG program, she turned obstacles into motivation and achieved a goal that will provide long-term stability for her and her family.
Her story is a powerful reminder that with determination, support and opportunity, even the toughest roads can lead to a brighter future.
