Paula Allen came to Goodwill North Central Texas’ Job Resource Center seeking a fresh start after a period of incarceration. Determined to rebuild her life, she faced barriers related to her background while working to secure stable employment. With the support of her daughter and a strong foundation of faith, Paula remained focused on moving forward.
Through the Goodwill Works program, Paula fully engaged in services designed to prepare her for success. She attended hiring events, participated in job fairs and actively pursued new opportunities. Along the way, she faced multiple rejections due to her background. While discouraging, she stayed committed and continued applying the tools and strategies she gained through the program.
Her persistence paid off when she secured a position as a Production Associate at a local warehouse. After successfully completing her 90-day probationary period, Paula earned permanent employment and continues to thrive in her role.
In addition to finding employment, Paula reached another major milestone by earning her GED after completing the Goodwill Works program. She is now continuing her education at Tarrant County College, attending night classes while working. She is also working toward purchasing a vehicle, further strengthening her independence and stability.
In a relatively short time, Paula has gone from facing significant barriers to building a stable and promising future. Her journey reflects resilience, determination and the impact of having the right support system.
