Like many Americans, James Thompson struggled to find employment amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In Texas alone, unemployment peaked at 12.6% in April of 2020, impacting roughly 1.6 million individuals. Following a year and a half of job searching a co-worker of James’ wife recommended Goodwill North Central Texas’ job placement services. He took her advice and in July 2022 began his intake process.
With Goodwill staff and partner organization Indeed, James created a new resume to help him stand out to potential employers. He was encouraged to pursue a position within Goodwill as a Job Placement Specialist and applied. After a successful interview in August, he was hired on-the-spot and began his work with Goodwill’s Opportunity Accelerator program. Through the delivery of digital skills, job placement and career training services, the Opportunity Accelerator empowers individuals to achieve their job & career objectives.
Thompson’s role as Job Placement Specialist has enabled him to achieve financial stability and help others overcome barriers to employment as well. James thrives in his client interactions and is proud to serve his community. Great work, James!
