Sara Williams Success Story

Sara Williams found herself in desperate need of employment. Williams, 60, and with a criminal background, knew that she had barriers to overcome in order to pay her bills. In October 2022 she was referred to Goodwill’s Denton Job Resource Center by a partner organization, United Way. The Denton team assisted her with job placement training and encouraged her to enhance her digital skills through the Digital Career Accelerator Program.

Sara visited the Job Resource Center on an almost daily basis, increasing her skillset and building strong connections to Goodwill staff. With their help she gained the skills she needed to find full-time employment with ReaderLink Distribution Services. Job Placement Specialist Garcia also provided her with Lyft vouchers and a Goodwill clothing voucher so that she could have access to transportation and work clothes, securing her employment.

After she received her first paycheck from ReaderLink, Sara called the team at Denton to say “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you, you literally saved me from being out on the street.” She maintains contact with them, calling on occasion to express her gratitude and friendship. Her ambition to work alongside the dedication from Goodwill staff keeps her thriving in an ever-changing world.
