Navigating the uncertainty of high school, Husain faced challenges that threatened to derail his future. Battling negative influences and encountering the legal system, he found himself in truancy court not once but twice—first in 2020 and again in 2023. The turning point came when he was expelled from high school, leading to an unexpected opportunity that would change his trajectory.
After being expelled, he found an unexpected lifeline through Tarrant County Precinct 7 Judge Kenneth Sanders. Instead of merely facing consequences, Husain was given the chance to enroll in Goodwill’s E-Squared program—an opportunity for at-risk youth ages 16-24 to earn their GED while gaining work experience.
Starting classes in May 2023, Husain initially struggled to adapt to the program’s structure. However, with the support of Goodwill’s Youth Specialists, who aided him with his education and connected him to essential resources such as transportation assistance from Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, he gradually found his footing. After four months, he successfully graduated from the program in September 2023, marking a significant step forward in his educational journey.
Fueled by newfound confidence and armed with the skills acquired from E-Squared, Husain set his sights on higher education at Tarrant County College. With the continued guidance of Goodwill Youth Specialists, Husain successfully applied and is now pursuing a degree in Information Technology: Game, Simulation & Animation Design.
Proud of his achievements, he returned to Judge Sanders to express gratitude for the opportunities provided by him and the E-Squared program.
