Phlebotomists have been around a lot longer than you might think! The origins of this profession can be traced as far back as 1000 BC. The practice, known as “bloodletting,” would evolve to what we know today. Phlebotomists are trained to draw blood from patients and play a crucial role in lab tests, blood donations and therapeutic procedures.
To help meet the demand for this position, the Goodwill Leadership Academy is hosting a pilot program that trains individuals to work as a phlebotomy technician. The course gives students practical training to prepare them for the provisional Certified Phlebotomy Technician Specialist (CPTS) exam offered by the American Education Certification Association (AECA).
