Random Acts of Kindness Day is here and what better way to acknowledge this special day than to go out and commit good deeds! First recognized in 1995 in Colorado by a small nonprofit known as the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, this national holiday is observed on February 17th by being kind to others for no reason in particular. Typical activities include giving flowers to strangers, leaving love notes, creating kindness jars and more.
Need some inspiration on how to celebrate this thoughtful holiday? We prepared a plethora of acts that you can go out and do today! Bring your smiles, today is the day to spread joy!
- Leave a Positive Comment: Social media’s impact on everyday life is significant to say the least. People upload content of their daily life, talents, hobbies and more. Take time out of your day to acknowledge the content they’re posting and let them know you enjoy what they provide!
- Acknowledge Appearance: See someone with a cool hair style? How about earrings that complement their top? Tell them you like their style! Uplifting someone’s appearance can boost their confidence as well as uplift their spirits.
- Donating: Is your space becoming cluttered? Package up any unwanted items and bring them to your local Goodwill! Your items are more than someone else’s treasure, they help build a stronger local community!
- Pick up Litter: It’s unfortunate that litter exists to begin with, but taking care of the environment gives your community a tidier space. An unsung hero!
- Hold the Door for Someone: Something as simple as getting the door for someone can make their day! It shows that you’re looking out for someone other than yourself. Kudos!
- Gift giving: Big or small, showing the person that you were thinking about them can brighten their day. Don’t know what to get them? Listen carefully to what their interests are and plan around the information they give you!
- Invite Someone to Lunch: Everyone loves food! Invite someone to grab a bite to eat and get to know one another better over a delicious meal!
- Ask Someone How Their Day Is: It’s easy to get caught up in talking about yourself. Try taking the initiative of asking someone how they are doing, they may have something exciting to share!
- See Someone Struggling? Lend a hand!: Believe it or not, some people aren’t comfortable asking for help as they don’t want to put a burden on anyone. Try approaching someone in need and ask how you can help!
- Listen!: We all have our rough days and sometimes we just have to get it off our chest. Taking the time out of your day to listen to someone in their time of need can leave the person feeling heard and important.
We hope this gives you some inspiration for Random Acts of Kindness Day. Remember, no matter which approach you take, it’s always the thought that counts!
