Selena Ruiz Collazo was seeking guidance on her career path. As a mother of two, she knew that she wanted to provide for her family and help people at the same time. Selena was encouraged by Fort Worth Independent School District to enroll in Goodwill’s technical school, the North Texas Institute for Career Development (NTI).
NTI offers certification courses in a variety of fields, including the medical and I.T. fields, and helped set Selena on the right path. She enrolled in the school’s virtual medical front office assistant program in February 2022 and graduated in May, earning a Medical Administrative Assistant certificate. Although she was initially unsure of her prospects due to a lack of workplace experience, she found employment with Aveanna Healthcare with help from Goodwill staff who provided her with job training and placement assistance.
Selena recently celebrated 90 days of employment at Aveanna Healthcare and is thriving in her work as a front office operations specialist. She enjoys working with patients and is happy using the knowledge she gained with NTI in her daily work life. She attributes much of her success to her interactions with the Goodwill Workforce Development staff who encouraged her throughout the job placement process. Selena says that Goodwill and the North Texas Institute for Career Development gave her greater opportunities, and she is now reaping the rewards of her hard work.
